Open the Window, Aunt Minnie, Here It Comes!

First Sunday of Advent Jeremiah 33:14-16: The selection is a promise of fulfillment for Israel and for Judah, one of many Israelite expressions of hope for a political ruler in David’s line, one who will rule in a way that will give to Jerusalem a good name. “Behold, the days are coming, saith the Lord, that I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause the Branch of righteousness to spring forth unto David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah will be saved and Jerusalem shall dwell securely. And this is the name where with it will be called: The Lord is our righteousness.” Before the advent of television, baseball broadcasts depended on colorful announcers to captivate a listening audience. One of the best of these announcers was named Rosey Rowswell. Rowswell was the radio voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The star slugger with the Pirates at the time was Ralph Kiner.
